The Moral Failures Of Church Leaders - 2021 Words

Whenever I hear about church leaders who experience moral failures, it sends chills up my spine. I hate to see politicians (who most people expect to fail), and business leaders fall, but the fall of church leaders is particularly troubling. Hearing about the moral failures of church leaders, I would wonder how it could happen. In College we were taught how to protect ourselves from being falsely accused of wrong-doing, along with talking about the importance of walk with God; however, I do not remember being taught that our possible downfall could spring forth from something dark inside of me. The thought of a dark side seems so sinister, but in The Dark Side Of Leadership, the authors state, â€Å"The dark side, though sounding quite†¦show more content†¦In the world we live in today, bad news spreads faster than ever. In the days of JFK he could do whatever he wanted without it being reported, today’s media will air your dirty laundry as quickly as possible. W hen I have pondered the fall of so many people, especially in the church, I have always felt the sin did not just appear, but rather it was something under the surface for many years. The authors really opened my eyes when they pointed out how childhood issues, many of which usually drive one to be a success, can become the root cause for a potential moral failure. Moral failures do not just creep up on a leader, the roots for the possibly upcoming failure run deep within our psyche (McIntosh Rima, 2007, p. 28). We should never feel as though we could not succumb to moral failure. In the beginning of chapter two, there is a statement that should cause all of us to take a moment to think about, â€Å"The sad reality is that all too often, when we are living and leading from the shadow of our dark side, danger lurks around virtually every corner, not only to us but also for the people and organizations we lead† (McIntosh Rima, 2007, p. 35). This reminds me of what Peter writes in 1 Peter 5:8 when he tells us Satan is a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. If we are ignorant to how these failures occur or are oblivious to the dangers that lurk, we will set ourselves up for failure.
